These small drawings, generated by writing with a dental instrument over typewriter carbon ribbon, originate from scrap sheets while producing all my typewriter ribbon work. They are the random imprint of vast amounts of writing. The text is almost entirely illegible.
Being misread is essential to my work. In this case, I don’t even know what the actual text in these pieces is—I have no longer any access to its provenance. It gives me great pleasure that these drawings will keep their secret even from me, so I cannot be tortured to divulge neither the content of the script nor their origin. Given that many of my works are often wrongly suspected to have some content relating to the Holocaust, I sincerely hope that these texts don’t. But then again, is a work with illegible text that was presumably copied from a document related to the Holocaust any more about the Holocaust than any other work with illegible text?
